FRCS
These are the abbreviations used to imply that the surgeon is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. The surgeon will have sat post graduate exams and shown sufficient skill and knowledge to be invited to be a Fellow of one of the Royal Surgical Colleges.
MRCS
These are the abbreviations used to imply that the Surgeon is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons. The surgeon will have sat post graduate exams and shown sufficient skill and knowledge to be invited to join as a member of one of the Royal Surgical Colleges.
MRCGP
These abbreviations imply that your doctor has sat post graduate exams and been invited to join the Royal College of General Practitioners. A general practitioner is a doctor with an interest in family medicine and in medical procedures that can be done in a specialist community setting.
GMC
The GMC or General Medical Council is the official organisation that sets regulations and guidance for UK doctors. The GMC also publicises the names of doctors approved to practice in the UK on its medical register.
This register is available on line, if a doctor has been struck off their name is removed from this register.
GPwSI
These abbreviations stand for General Practitioner with a Specialist Interest.
This is the qualification a General Practitioner gains when they have shown sufficient skill and further ability in a chosen area for example minor surgery, dermatology or vasectomy.
BMA
The BMA or British Medical Association is the professional medical association and trade union for doctors.
NICE
These abbreviations stand for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. NICE is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health.
BAD
The British Association of Dermatologists is the professional organisation for consultant, trainee and staff and associate specialist dermatologists in the UK and Eire.

BANSV is an association of doctors performing vasectomy by the most up to date method in non-hospital settings.
