If the latest trends are anything to go by, it seems gifts like beer, books and gadgets for Father’s Day are becoming a thing of the past – as Botox treatments gain in popularity among men.
With the use of Botox injections by men increasing 258% over the past decade, there is a growing Father’s Day trend toward Botox.
An effective way of achieving a younger looking appearance, Botox is used to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles. This treatment, carried out by a professional aesthetic doctor, also has added benefits that include a confidence boost and greater sense of happiness.
Earlier this year, evidence was unveiled to show more businessmen are turning to Botox in a bid to stay more competitive at work, and now new research highlights the surge in popularity for this medical cosmetics treatment among males.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) claims that the use of Botox injections by men has soared between 2000 and 2010 by an incredible 258% and was the most popular cosmetic treatment selected by men during 2010 – overtaking both hair restoration and liposuction procedures.
And according to a recent review of social media by The Patient’s Guide, the number of men mentioning Botox treatments online has drastically increased. In the 30 days run-up to Father’s Day, a review of Facebook and Twitter posts highlight that 40% of all social media references to Botox were made by men.
So it’s no wonder the cosmetic drug now has a new nickname – Brotox, to reflect its growing male customer base.
Jasson W. Gilmore, CEO and co-founder of The Patient’s Guide said: “Male interest in aesthetic treatments is up 44% from Q1 of last year to this year. Based on these results, along with feedback from physicians in the field, we expect this trend to continue. As cosmetic treatments like BOTOX, Juvederm and Ulthera become more mainstream, men will adopt them and represent a strong growth segment for the industry.”
As the statistics for the cosmetic surgery and aesthetic medicine sector change because of the increasing interest of men to enhance their appearance cosmetically, our ideas for Father’s Day gifts will likely shift too.
